Art, customs, lifestyles, background, habits and religion are intrinsic parts of culture that constitute a people’s way of life.
Culture is a primary factor of social development, and
has an increase significance in economic development which in the large part determines the effective functioning of the economy. These economic developments stem from various activities such as festivals, to spring board cultural tourism development in Africa.
OsunOsogbo festival is regarded as an important socio-cultural means of supplicating to the Supreme Being at most times, through his intermediaries according to different individuals’ believe. The celebration of the OsunOsogbo festival is a period when all sons and daughters of Osogbo Land most especially Yoruba speaking people both in Nigeria and diaspora assemble for meet and greet. It is the month of celebration, traditional cleansing of the city and cultural reunion of the people with their great ancestors and founders of Osogbo land, which is rekindled every year in the month of August.
Consequently, the festival has been supported by MTN for over a decade. The festival has been transformed through MTN’s sponsorship and that of other sponsors into a world class tourism event attracting a worldwide tourist audience. Also, MTN will add more value to the festival by empowering indigenes of Osogbo through our sustainability program. This will be a lasting legacy that will positively affect the lives of the people.
The event runs from 8th – 19th of August.
